The Peace of Wild Things, Smells, & Mystery Mountain

We hiked Mystery on Sunday. After Friday's hike of Whitecap, Mystery was more of a slog but... whatever.  I watch Bailey closely these days as he wanders up the trails. In his old age, he's become the consummate sniffer. He can smell a branch for 2 minutes straight and then waddle off to chomp on the some mud. Does he know what he's eating? I read in a dog book that a dog's sense of smell is estimated anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 times better than people's. What's up with the mud then? Bailey's walks around our neighborhood are highlighted by long stops every-anywhere for a good sniff. He's especially fond of the Petrie's yard--they have 2, sometimes 3 dogs at any one time; he also loves Finn and Kobe DeMascio's yard... there's also a chance of a treat at the DeMascio's.

Here are pictures from Mystery Mountain in Rumford Point:

I'm off at 4am tomorrow morning, so Bailey's on Porter Avenue at Chateau de Madore. Sharon often sends pictures of what's happening. That what's happening is bed time! As I wrote to Sharon, now that he's pretty much deaf, Bailey sleeps deeply.

Nity Nite, Bailster.
