Not supposed to be counting

 

Last December when we hit hike #213 for 2021, I promised I wouldn't count hikes any more... but there I go, counting hikes. We're at 96 right now and will shoot for one today and one tomorrow. It doesn't seem like I can get over the challenge of numbers. The warm and sometimes hot weather knocks Bailey for a loop.   This afternoon, we're off to Whitecap. Hopefully, the humidity stays low. 

Last week, we hiked Whitecap on a coolish day in 2 hours. I'm worried that those days may now be past. Bailey won't be happy.

The old mutt and I have been battling small injuries. We're both limping but Bailey also landed a case of bacteria in his stomach. Fun! We recovered enough this week to hike our favorite, Rumford's Whitecap, as well as Red Hill. Ticks are in full bloom. I'm pretty vigilant and Bailey has NexGard... I wish they had this drug for people. Pop a pill, a tick bites you, and it dies. What could be better? 

I pay attention to our longer, steeper hikes. I know we're creeping toward that last hike together. Bailey won't be pleased being left at home, but he'll just have to dog up and face aging square in the face and eat a Peanut Butter Kong.

We were up at 5:00am and out the door by 6:00am heading to the Portland Jetport. The last 24 hours of lasts... last goodbyes, last sports event, last time with Bailey, last dinners, last bit of packing, last breakfast, last moment in Rumford, last smiles, words, hugs...  Azi's had a fabulous year in America and his good-bye gatherings sparkled with friendship.
